The Informatics Engineering Student Association of Karimun University Successfully Conducted a Public Lecture Titled "Create Innovation Through Technopreneurship

On Thursday, 22 Rabiul Awwal 1446 H, which coincided with September 26, 2024, the Informatics Engineering Student Association of Karimun University successfully organized a public lecture titled "Create Innovation Through Technopreneurship." The event took place in the Auditorium of Karimun University and was attended by students and several lecturers from the Faculty of Informatics Engineering. This public lecture became an important moment for students to better understand and explore their potential in the field of technological innovation and technopreneurship.

This event received full support from Karimun University (UK), UK Informatics Engineering Student Association (IG:@hmtif_uk) and Bhakti Timah Karimun Hospital (IG:@ihc.rsbtkarimun), who also contributed to the organization of the event, where this event presented three speakers who have experience and expertise in their respective fields. The first speaker was Azrani Ery Saputra, CEO of the ride-hailing application “JEKWA” and founder of Kisdit & MtechT Community (kisdit.mtecht.my.id). In her presentation, Azrani shared her experience on how she founded the “JEKWA” application which specifically serves transportation for women and children. This application is an innovation that focuses on user safety and comfort, as well as opening up employment opportunities for women as drivers.

According to Azrani, the basic idea behind the app’s creation stemmed from the need for safe transportation services for women and children. “JEKWA was developed to address this need, while also creating job opportunities for women in an industry that is traditionally male-dominated,” he explained. He further elaborated that current technological innovations enable the creation of technology-based services that have a positive impact on society. “Technopreneurship is not just about making a profit, but also about providing solutions to societal problems,” he added.

The second speaker, Ilham Gantar, M.Si, a lecturer at the Faculty of Informatics Engineering at Karimun University, delivered a presentation on the role of students in developing creative ideas through a technological approach. Ilham emphasized that students today have broad access to various technological platforms that can support them in creating innovations. He highlighted the importance of technopreneurship in driving the economy, especially in the current digital era. “Students need to be bold in taking risks and thinking beyond conventional boundaries in creating innovation,” Ilham remarked.

In addition, Ilham provided an overview of the rapid growth of the information technology industry in Indonesia. According to him, the challenges faced by students in this field are not only related to technical skills, but also to how they can combine technological innovation with business opportunities. "Technopreneurship is an ecosystem that requires creativity, courage, and perseverance. Students should seize this opportunity to develop innovations that are not only technologically advanced but also marketable," Ilham concluded.

The third speaker was Naila Nurul Afifah, S.Gz, a healthcare professional from Bhakti Timah Karimun Hospital. Although she has a background in healthcare, Naila shared her views on how technology plays a significant role in the healthcare industry, particularly in the realm of technopreneurship. She highlighted the importance of innovation in the healthcare sector to improve access to services for the community. “In healthcare, technological innovation is crucial for enhancing service efficiency and expanding healthcare access, especially in remote areas,” Naila stated.

Naila also explained the use of healthcare applications that are currently widely used in hospitals and clinics, including at Bhakti Timah Karimun Hospital. These applications assist patients in registering online, tracking doctor schedules, and accessing medical test results digitally. “The use of technology in healthcare offers many benefits, including minimizing administrative errors and providing easier access for patients to healthcare services,” she added.

This public lecture was enthusiastically received by the participants. The students who attended were very active in the question-and-answer session, delving deeper into the topics of technopreneurship and the opportunities they could pursue through technological innovation. One of the participants, a final-year student, expressed that the lecture provided new insights on how they could contribute to creating technological innovations that benefit society. “I’m very interested in the discussion about how technopreneurship can be implemented in various sectors like transportation and healthcare. This opened my eyes to the vast opportunities in the tech world that can be applied across different fields,” he said.

Not only did the lecture provide valuable knowledge, but it was also expected to motivate students to be more proactive in developing their creative ideas. In his opening remarks, the Chairman of the Informatics Engineering Student Association of Karimun University expressed that this event was part of their efforts to continuously encourage students to think creatively and innovatively. “We hope that events like this can inspire students to keep working and creating innovations, especially in the rapidly growing field of technology,” he said.

The event concluded with a group photo session featuring the speakers, lecturers, and students in attendance. The participants seemed eager to capture this important moment. The public lecture, organized by the Informatics Engineering Student Association of Karimun University, is expected to be a driving force for students to engage in technopreneurship and create new innovations that benefit society.

With the conclusion of this public lecture, Karimun University, through the Faculty of Informatics Engineering, remains committed to organizing similar events that can inspire and equip students with the knowledge and skills relevant to today’s technological developments. Great expectations are placed on the younger generation, particularly Informatics Engineering students, to continue innovating and contributing to national progress through technopreneurship. (@jo)
